CHAMBER MUSIC AMERICA, the national service organization for the ensemble music profession, was founded in 1977 to develop and strengthen an evolving chamber music community. With a membership of nearly 6,000, including musicians, ensembles, presenters, artists’ managers, educators, music businesses, and advocates of ensemble music, CMA welcomes members representing a wide range of musical styles and traditions. In addition to its funding programs, CMA provides its members with grant programs, consulting services, access to health and instrument insurance, conferences, workshops and several publications, including Chamber Music magazine; Accent, an e-newsletter; and a member-driven website, www.chamber-music.org

CMA Jazz Grant Programs

New Jazz Works: Commissioning and Ensemble Development supports the creation and performance of new chamber works by U.S. jazz ensembles, funds activities that extend the life of the work, and encourages the development of career-related business skills over a three-year period. Deadline: March 8, 2013. Funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation

Presenting Jazz supports U.S. presenters working with U.S. jazz ensembles in public performance. Incentives are available to presenters that invite an ensemble to perform its CMA New Jazz Works commission. Priority is given to projects presenting emerging or mid-career ensembles or projects that represent new directions for the presenter. Deadline: October 12, 2012. Funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation

Residency Partnership Program supports ensembles’ and presenters’ collaborations with community organizations on educational residencies that broaden the understanding and enjoyment of classical/contemporary, jazz, or world chamber music. Projects may engage audiences/participants of any age group or background. Deadline: November 16, 2013

First and Second Tuesdays is a free professional development workshop series that addresses a wide range of practical issues affecting ensembles and presenters. Workshops are live-streamed and archived, and followed by online chats with the experts. Funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, New York State Council on the Arts, and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
