Jazz on The Move Concert. A Tribute to Ella at the Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack NY
Jazz vocalist, Alicia Crowe will performing a special tribute to Ella Fitzgerald at the Elmwood Playhouse on July 20, 2014 at 7 pm. Crowe will be accompanied by, Jason Teborek on piano, Paul Beaudry on bass, Tony Jefferson on drums, and Herve Alexandre on saxophone. Yvette McLarty will be the MC and perform a comedy set. Tickets are $15. This event is co-produced by Elmwood Playhouse’s Sunday’s at 7 series and A Crowe Flyz Productions.
The event is the launch of Crowe’s Jazz On the Move Concert Series through her production company A Crowe Flyz Productions. Crowe aims to make Jazz On The Move an on-going event. This event is following Alicia’s sizzling performance in Elmwood Playhouse’s recent production of Smokin’ Joe’s Café in Nyack, New York.
“I wanted to find a way to celebrate Jazz legends and keep our art form alive,” says Alicia. She and her twin sister Alice formed A Crowe Flyz Productions to produce their creative projects.
Alicia is a native New Yorker, and was most influenced by her mother’s jazz and classical music collection which included Ella Fitzgerald, Sara Vaughn, Carmen McRae, Nancy Wilson, Miriam Makeba, Nina Simone and Shirley Horn.
Not long after receiving her law degree from Howard University and going into private practice with her identical twin sister, Alice, she began studying voice privately with Dr. Stanley L. Ralph. Soon she opened concerts with Stella Marrs, Jimmy Heath, Lou Meyers, Norman Simmons, Sheila Jordan and Cameron Brown, and Sam Waymon,.
Alicia studied further at Harlem’s esteemed Jazzmobile Saturday workshops founded by the late Billy Taylor where she developed her craft and found great mentors. She performs regularly with the Carrie Jackson jazz vocal collective in Newark, New Jersey, the Jazz Foundation of America Jazz loft party and at several venues and private events in the New York metropolitan area. She has performed at Alicia has been featured in “O” The Oprah Magazine, BET, Designing Spaces TV, and other media.
Ms. Crowe will be accompanied by Jason Teborek on piano. Teborek is a native of Portland, Oregon. Bassist, composer, producer, vocalist, and educator Paul Beaudry is a San Francisco native now residing in New York. Since relocating to New York in early 2001, Beaudry has toured worldwide as a sideman with Steve Turre, Wycliffe Gordon, Allan Harris, Winard Harper and Eric Lewis and also performed in concerts or on recordings with such jazz greats as Clark Terry, Grady Tate, Jimmy Cobb, Charlie Persip, Frank Wess, Cecil Bridgewater, Billy Harper, Eddie Henderson, Roy Hargrove, Johnny O’Neal, Bruce Barth and Dave Valentine.
Herve Alexandre is recognized as an upcoming Saxophonist, composer, producer, lyricist and performer. Herve has performed on the World Famous Apollo Theater stage that has brought you legends such as Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Jackson, James Brown, Whitney Houston, and much more. Herve received 3rd place at the World Famous Apollo Theater in 2010 and returned in 2012 and won first place.
Tony Jefferson, a New York native, is an accomplished drummer and has been a fixture on the New York jazz scene for many years. He has toured around the globe playing both festivals and clubs with world class musicians. Tony has performed and recorded with many jazz artists and groups including: Eddie Harris, Kenny Drew Jr., Lonnie Smith, Eddie Henderson, Lou Donaldson, Frank Wess, Don Friedman, Cyrus Chestnut, Mark Whitfield, Jerry Bergonzi, Joey Calderazzo, Freddy Cole, Hank Jones, Benny Golson, Cedar Walton, Vic Juris, Steve Slagle, Charles McPherson, Gary Smulyan, John Abercrombie, Marc Copland, Kevin Hays, Rick Margitza, Cameron Brown (Danny’s Calypso and The Here & Now), Paul Beaudry and Pathways (Jazz Ambassadors Tour for Jazz at Lincoln Center), Don Byron (Ivey Divey Trio/New Gospel Quintet), James Weidman, Harvie S, Sheila Jordan, Nancy King, Ernestine Anderson, Annie Ross and the Westchester Jazz Orchestra.
Yvette Rose McLarty is a comedian and actress. She studied comedy with Lewis Black and Scott Blakeman, solo performance with Joe Gilford and Ensemble Studio Theatre, and song interpretation with Betty Buckley.

Jazz vocalist Shirley Crabbe sings songs that speak to the heart. Her most recent appearance was at Harlem’s historic Jazz room, Lenox Lounge, where to a sold out audience, she performed music from her inaugural CD Home. She has also appeared at the Metropolitan Room and at the world-famous jazz club Birdland. Once the opening act for the jazz icon Abby Lincoln, Shirley has also performed with the celebrated jazz pianist Harold Mabern and bassist Jamil Nasser.

Sam Waymon, is a creative legend who has contributed to local, national and world culture. Born in North Carolina, Sam began playing piano at age 3, much the same way as his older sister, Eunice, had done before him. In the mid-1950's his sister left North Carolina to further her career. Along the way she dropped her given name and became one of music's most influential and unique musicians, known as Nina Simone. Sam worked and recorded with his sister for over ten years. He broke away to develop his own style that combined everything from gospel to jazz.
