Award-winning jazz pianist and composer Ben Winkelman is playing on Wedenesday, February 3, 2016 at 8pm at Cornelia Street Café. Joining him are drummer Obed Calvaire and bassist Desmond White. They will be playing material from Ben’s new trio album, The Knife, recently released on OA2 Records.

Inspired by the highs and lows of getting acclimatized to life in New York, the thirteen original compositions on The Knife explore some of Ben’s diverse musical interests in a jazz piano trio setting. Formerly of Melbourne, Australia, Ben has been based in New York since 2010, where he is active on the jazz, Latin and gospel music scenes. He has previously released three critically acclaimed albums on the Australian label Jazzhead. His second album won the AIR Award for Best Independent Jazz Release, his first was nominated for an Australian Jazz Bell Award and his third was nominated for an AIR Award. The Ben Winkelman Trio has toured extensively in Australia, Japan and New Caledonia, and has appeared at many of the Australian jazz and music festivals and on Australian national television. His trio will be touring Australia in March 2016 to promote The Knife.
