Rising star drummer Bryan Carter brings his hit program “The Music of Ray Charles” to Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, featuring new arrangements of Ray Charles’ early Atlantic years (with jazz masters like Milt Jackson and Oscar Pettiford), through to his soulful, crooning country classics. Tonight’s band features two very special guests: Danielle Brooks, a young actress and vocalist best known for her role on Orange is the New Black and who is preparing for her Broadway debut in The Color Purple; and trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, a longtime Jazz at Lincoln Center favorite called “the most soulful man alive” by vocalist Michael Mwenso, an artist so talented that mention of his virtuosic technique comes as an afterthought; as Wynton Marsalis says, “Just his presence is a creative experience.”...
