DENNIS DAY WITH THE BILLY KAYE QUINTET at Metropolitan Room

Dennis Day is no newcomer to the jazz scene. Since his New York debut in the 80s, his performances, vocal stylings, and the quality of his musical collaborations with world-class musicians have distinguished him as a solid performer of soul-jazz and standards. Day has performed New York’s major jazz venues, as well as at the Vancouver Jazz Festival; Live! at the Woodrow Wilson Plaza in Washington, DC; Harlem Week; and the Portland International Jazz Festival.

Noted jazz critic Herb Boyd has written: “What stands out most about the Harlem-based singer is his versatility. At the Metropolitan Room, Day will perform music from his award-winning CD, Dennis Day All Things In Time, on which he covers many styles within the jazz idiom, including bebop, ballads, and the blues. He will be joined by drummer Billy Kaye, whose adaptable swing and percussive technique has been enlisted by the likes of Monk, Gillespie, Gloria Lynn, and George Benson. Kaye’s versatile young quintet provides the perfect musical backdrop for the singer’s eclectic range of jazz vocal repertoire.
