John says "Although I was trained in classical music, I've always had an innate urge to improvise. I was fortunate to have teachers and mentors (particularly Gunther Schuller) who didn't discourage me from venturing into the jazz world with my horn. Early on, I had the idea to combine some traditional horn pieces with a jazz setting, but didn't clearly see a way to realize it. In the OCQ, I have found the perfect vehicle for this dream!
