About
Sound It Out Presents Its First Show in Brooklyn – Vocalist Fay Victor’s Herbie Nichols Sung at the Brooklyn Conservatory in Park Slope, May 15
“A jazz singer who makes her notes slow, wide and meaningful.” — The New York Times on Fay Victor
“The voice is the most beautiful instrument of all.” — Herbie Nichols
For its first concert in Brooklyn, Sound It Out presents vocalist Fay Victor’s Herbie Nichols Sung at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music at 58 Seventh Avenue in Park Slope (www.bqcm.org). It was a house-rockin’ Sound It Out show in December at Greenwich House in the West Village when Fay led an all-star band in her soul-deep lyrical re-creations of tunes by the great, unsung bop-era pianist-composer Herbie Nichols – who wrote the music to Billie Holiday’s “Lady Sings the Blues,” as well as such ever-hip instrumentals as “House Party Starting.” Now, Fay reconvenes her kindred-spirit combo of saxophonist Michaël Attias, pianist Anthony Coleman, bassist Ratzo Harris & drummer Michael Sarin for an encore Sound It Out concert of this special music at a special place: the Brooklyn Conservatory. Tickets for Fay Victor’s Herbie Nichols Sung are $20 ($15 for students), available in advance and at the door. For venue information and advance tickets go to bqcm.org/sounditout....
