An upright grand piano, the kind once used to create some of today's classic Jazz tunes plays alongside other acoustic style instruments in what we call THE ROOM.
During the 1930s, perhaps even earlier, Manhattan wasn't the only Jazz scene, Brooklyn had one of it’s own. Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn had one of the largest Jazz community around. The neighborhood held many venues that housed jazz greats like Bedford Stuyvesant held many venues that housed jazz greats like Duke Ellington @ B'klyn Paramount Theatre. Miles Davis, Fulton St. Blue Coronet, also small but effective. Thelonius Monk, Randy Weston,, Max Roach, Hank Mobley among other Jazz Concerts. Lena Horne, Carmen McRae, Randy Weston, Abbey Lincoln, Eubie Blake, Ray Abrams, Betty Carter to name a few.
All of that eventually changed, and jazz clubs fizzled out in favor of a different generation’s style of music.
Debbie McClain, owner of Sankofa Aban Bed and Breakfast looked to revive the local community scene of the past. Including the jazz from the past when she met with her partner Eric Lemons.
DebbieMc, along with Eric Lemons an accomplished string musician and Co-Foundering partner for BrownstoneJAZZ values authenticity and selectiveness, when deciding who to feature and when.
