On September 28th through the 30th Greg Osby’s independent and forward-thinking record label, Inner Circle Music (INCM), will present six of its compelling composer-bandleaders at some of New York’s most vibrant and intimate listening rooms for creative music.

On September 28th at Matt Garrison’s Shapeshifter Lab, three intrepid bandleaders will present their unique boundary-eschewing brands of improvised music. Dubbed “a rising talent worth watching” by the New York Times, Violinist/composer Tomoko Omura will present her Roots Quintet, adapting folk melodies from her native Japan and original compositions to her unique modern jazz ethos. Omura’s band features Glenn Zaleski on piano, Jeff Miles on guitar, Noah Garabedian on bass, and Jay Sawyer on drums (7pm). Virtuoso guitarist Kenji Herbert will then present his own compositions with a unique lineup, including Maeve Gilchrist on harp, the aforementioned Omura on violin, and fellow INCM artist Yuhan Su on vibraphone and malletkat (8:15pm). Su, a rising vibraphone star (so recognized in the recent Critics Poll in Downbeat Magazine), from Taiwan, will round out the evening with a mixed-media collaborative project with the aforementioned violinist Tomoko Omura and Media Artist Poyen Wang (9:30pm). A $15 cover charge will entitle attendees access to the three sets....
