About
Led by Chilean-Cuban drummer/composer Alejandro “Alex” García, AfroMantra combines rich harmonies with the powerful rhythms and flavors of North and Latin America. With a contemporary outlook, the four-piece band skillfully balances original compositions that draw from Caribbean, South American, and North American traditions and influences. “Magisterial in its melodic and harmonic intent” (Latin Jazz Network). Lineup includes Carlos Chong on guitar, Álvaro Benavides on bass, and Coto Pincheira on keyboard.
This performance by AfroMantra is part of Pregones/PRTT's March is Music (MIM 15) series. The series is in its 15th year and signifies a time when the off-Broadway theater puts a focus on music. MIM 15 features two virtual concerts every weekend in March: Saturday evening concerts will be led by latin jazz, contemporary chamber, and afro-Dominican fusion artists. Sunday afternoons will feature classical piano concerts by pianists such as Sarah Davis Buechner and additional classical pianists acclaimed in the US and abroad. ...
