About

Independent Brooklyn record label Music Starts From Silence presents a double bill of innovative improvisers featuring Loop 2.4.3 and Harris Eisenstadt: Aberikula.Loop 2.4.3's instrumentation of marimba, steel drum, toms, gongs, and electronics is used with flexible forms and highly-tuned instincts to create dramatic, colorful music. "Mesmerizing...the group mingles taut compositions with a stunning improvisational sense." (Time Out Chicago)Aberikula refers to secular, rather than sacred, Cuban batá drums. Inspired by a recent research trip to AfroCuba, Eisenstadt premieres a new ensemble and arrangements of sacred and secular, traditional and contemporary Afrocuban songs and rhythms, drawing on the main Afrocuban cultural traditions (Yorubá, Palo, Abakuá, Arará) for source materials, alongside plenty of open space.
