RON CARTER TRIO PERFORMS AT WOODLAWN’S JAZZ CORNER

Internationally renowned jazz bassist Ron Carter will perform outdoors at the “Jazz Corner” of The Woodlawn Cemetery on Sunday, May 15th at 2pm. This special event will commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the birth of Miles Davis, Carter’s colleague and mentor.

Carter, a member of Davis’ second great quintet (1963-1968), is one of jazz’s most prolific artists, having more than 2000 albums to his credit.

Ron Carter has played alongside many of the jazz greats memorialized at Woodlawn, including: Jackie McLean, Max Roach, Coleman Hawkins, Ornette Coleman, Lionel Hampton, Clark Terry, and Milt Jackson. Over the course of his six decade career, Carter has toured with many different musicians in addition to leading bands playing his compositions and arrangements. His 2016 performance schedule includes venues in the United State and Europe and he has been named “Artist in Residence” for the Detroit Jazz Festival. The event stage will be positioned at the crossroads where Miles Davis and Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington are at rest. “We’ve held concerts at our Jazz Corner in the past, giving people the chance to remember the musicians that inspired us while enjoying the sounds of today. To have the great Ron Carter sharing his talent in a unique location will be very meaningful for all those who attend the concert,” said Mitch Rose, President of The Woodlawn Cemetery and Conservancy.
