New York City-based tenor saxophonist and composer Roxy Coss has performed around the world, including Germany and Paris, and at jazz festivals such as the North Sea, Vienne, Montreux, JVC New York, and the IAJE conference in Toronto. She has also appeared on the Today Show, at Avery Fisher Hall, the Blue Note, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, and Smalls Jazz Club in New York. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Coss was a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship to William Paterson University in New Jersey, where she studied with Clark Terry, Mulgrew Miller, Harold Mabern, Gary Smulyan, Rich Perry, Rich DeRosa, and Bill Goodwin. After graduating magna cum laude in 2008 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies and Performance, she moved to New York where she performed with such artists as Clark Terry, Claudio Roditi, and Grassella Oliphant. Coss released her self-titled debut album in 2010 and appeared twice in the 2010 Earshot Jazz Festival in Seattle. The album was in heavy rotation across the country, appearing on both the CMJ and Jazzweek Jazz Charts for 12 consecutive weeks, and frequented the rotation of the syndicated program Jazz After Hours with Jim Wilke. Currently, she leads her own group, playing at such venues as Smalls Jazz Club and Cecil's Jazz Club. Coss was selected for Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead 2011 music residency program at the Kennedy Center, and the 2011 Steans Institute for Young Artists Jazz Program at the Ravinia Festival.
