Three-time Emmy-nominated pianist/composer, Steve Sandberg, will perform two live-streamed concerts in early 2021 from Brooklyn’s Soapbox Gallery. Sandberg’s concerts will mix performances from the solo piano repertoire (Chopin, Ravel, Bartok, Liszt), with his trio’s expansive improvisations based on those works, and drawing from Latin, African, Balkan, and East Indian traditions. Sandberg grew up playing classical piano and is a longtime student of Seymour Bernstein. He became active and in demand in New York’s vibrant Latin music scene, performing with multi-instrumentalist Mario Rivera (as pianist, composer and arranger for Rivera’s legendary “Salsa Refugee” group), Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Ruben Blades, Bebel Gilberto, and David Byrne (“Rei Momo”) as keyboardist and vocalist...
